Choose only one option, set your timer, turn off all distractions, and get to organizing!
Option 1: Organize your Craft/Hobby Area
Are you happy with a paint brush in your hand or with a camera hanging around your neck? Whatever your hobby or craft, now is a fantastic time to evaluate the space and storage of your supplies. (Because usually our hobbies require all sorts of storage!)
- First, determine if the space you are using to organize your supplies is actually the best choice? Do you need to come up with a better area or system? (One of my personal favorites is using an armoire or an old dresser. Get creative and think outside the box.)
- Secondly, purge anything you don’t need anymore. (That broken lens, those empty spools of thread…)
- Lastly, clean and re-organize your supplies. Making note of anything that needs replenishing.
OR – Do you have a hobby or craft that you have left in the dust? Is it time to face the reality that you are just not going to get back into jewelry making or scrapbooking? It’s more than OK to turn the corner and say goodbye to a past hobby. There is so much freedom found in accepting the facts of life!
Option 2: Organize your Pet(s)
No pets? No problem! You can move to #1 or #3! But if you have a pet (or pets), today is the day you can focus your organizing efforts on your furry friend(s).
- First look at your pet’s area(s) and evaluate how things are working. Determine where there are opportunities for more organization.
- Recycle or toss any worn out items that are no longer needed.
- Keep your pet’s supplies in only one area (if possible) and in an area that is accessible, based on when and where you use the items. (For example, by the front door, in your mud room, or in your garage.)
- Consider adding a storage solution, do you have something around the house that could help contain and organize ALL of your pet supplies?
- While you have your pet on your mind, do you need to schedule any vet appointments for the fall?
Option 3: Organize Emergency Contacts
Do you have a spot (or sheet) where all of the emergency information for your family is kept? Preferably some place where someone – like a babysitter – could refer to it if needed or if you yourself needed to contact someone quickly, in the case of an emergency? Today, make sure that you have a list, that it is current, and that everyone knows where it is posted. I like to say – “JIC” – Just In Case. You can also check out the MWM Health + Home Management Planner that provides forms (and more) for things like this.
Important Reminders:
- Be realistic and do not take on more than what you will be able to finish within 10-15 minutes per day.
- The goal is to do one project to 100% completion each day.
- Feel free to mix and match from day-to-day based on what your specific needs are and what you have the motivation to work on!
