Today on the blog, I’m thrilled to welcome my friend Christy Lingo. Christy just launched a new course and it’s perfect timing as we dive into the fall season! Her new course, “Independence Skills for Independent Kids” will help you to better navigate your parenting and your priorities.
Also, be sure to check out our chat on the MWM Podcast (Episode 57). And, you can listen to my recent conversation with Christy on her new podcast too!
Now, without further ado…here’s Christy.
Do you want focused time to work but are afraid to “ignore” your children?
Tell me if any of these comments from my community sound familiar…
“I feel like when I make a phone call or am dealing with a client request that requires a bit more texting, my kids are drawn to me like a moth to a flame.”
“Mom guilt sets in when you are busy juggling mom duties, home duties, and not enough days to complete your tasks for your work or personal time.”
“I hate feeling like I should be doing more ‘fun, interactive’ things with them when really all I wanted was some peace and quiet to work.”
“It’s difficult for me because I want my kids to know that they are important to me when I am home but learn to respect that mommy is constantly working.”
If recent months have revealed anything, it’s that working from home while kids are around can be a challenge. Wait, what’s a word that is bigger than challenge…because it would be that. Whether you are juggling a toddler and a laptop or teens and iMacs, getting time to work on your business, for your job, or just around the house can be a struggle when the younger humans are home.
Is it even possible to work from home without the mom guilt gremlin creeping in?
Is it even possible to work from home without the mom guilt gremlin creeping in? Yes. Will my kids need years of therapy for thinking I ignored them if they play by themselves too long? No.
That’s why I created “Independence Skills for Independent Kids” …to help moms teach their kids to play independently and entertain themselves so that mom is able to focus on completing work in a focused and timely manner. The 3-part system helps you create a personalized strategy for the unique interests, age level, and needs of your household. Not only do I address what your child will do when playing independently and how to get started, but I tackle the mindset around why it is important for you and your kids. I even set you up to evolve your routine as your kids grow and mature.
In the course, I’ve also included over 30 ideas for independent, open ended play for kids of all ages. Use these ideas to create your initial routine or to supplement when your plan needs a bit of tweaking. And to help you get the most done during your child’s independent play periods, I’ve included a worksheet to establish your priorities and plan what you will work on.
Independent play is recommended and encouraged by pediatricians.
Did you know that independent play helps children to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills? And it encourages creativity and self-reliance? But it will take a little more than asking them to play in their rooms while mom works, especially at the beginning. That’s why I want to share how to solidify what your child will do during independent play, take action on the plans you make, and modify your plan as your child matures and interests change.
Lastly, I’m offering readers of Morganize with Me a special rate of only $7 (regularly $27). Use the code FriendsofBSM at check out to purchase the course. (This special offer is only available until September 30, 2020, so be sure to check it out today!)
