Graduation Ceremonies certainly look much different this year, but one thing that remains is the priority to celebrate graduates and present them with a special gift to honor their accomplishment.
When my daughter, Ainsley, graduated from High School last year, I knew I wanted to give her something meaningful and memorable. So, to help commemorate the big event I decided I wanted to make a T-Shirt Quilt out of her stash of t-shirts. We had been collecting and saving them from her years of school, sports, and activities.
However, I was quick to realize that this type of sewing is beyond my limited sewing abilities. I really wanted the memory quilt to be a keepsake and something she would cherish and use for years to come. Therefore, I sought out Campus Quilt Co and this decision was the best gift to both me and Ainsley.

First, they send you the most detailed instructions and take ALL of the guesswork out of it. I was a little concerned that this piece might be hard for me to do, but it was a breeze.
From sizing, to fabric swatches, to stickers to place on your t-shirts to specify which side of your shirt you want on your quilt – front, back, or both. The ordering and design piece could not have been any easier!
Next, you fill out the order form, package up your t-shirts, and then ship everything off to Campus Quilt, leaving the hard work to them!
Important things to note:
- You can use almost any kind of fabric, if they can put a needle through it, you can use it!
- You can choose the layout or have them do it for you.
- You can include special instructions if your layout is specific, so go ahead and get creative!
- You can even order a tote or pillow as well.
- You can take it easy!
Organizing Tip
Set up a system where you will store memory t-shirts for your kid(s). This way when the time comes to make a quilt, you already have all the t-shirts sorted and organized! For my kids I use the extra large Ziploc bags, one for each of them. It seems that whenever we do a reorganization of a closet or dresser we usually find a few more t-shirts to add to the stash!
Then a pretty box arrives on your doorstep with your beautiful t-shirt quilt!
For Ainsley’s quilt we chose a layout called the “Couch Quilt” which is 60″W x 75″H and calls for 20 t-shirts. This was the perfect size for her because it included her favorite 20 t-shirts. (Campus Quilt offers 10 different quilt sizes to choose from, so you can easily find a size that will accommodate the number of shirts you want to preserve.)
I love seeing the years of memories. From sport teams, to summer camps, to volunteering events, everything is highlighted for her and preserved. We often save everything without finding a way to use or see the things that mean so much to us. That’s why I love this option of taking significant memories and using them to create a practical item. When we preserve our memories, by finding a way to use and remember them, it can mean so much more.
Time marches on and it’s important to remember the significant steps along the way. I encourage you to check out Campus Quilts, Co. (Phone # 502-968-2850) and let them do the hard work of making a cherished quilt, pillow, or tote. Their products make thoughtful and wonderful graduation and/or holiday gifts.
Happy Organizing!
