Now that you’ve seen the basement (first floor), come on upstairs and see our second floor home tour. Or in other words…get ready for a bunch of pictures!
The door to basement is the first door on the left and our main entrance door is by the rug. Fun fact, people will often try to exit through the office doors (when they are closed) because our entryway has several doors surrounding it, so it’s a little bit confusing!
We have a two story entryway and I love the windows at the top. They provide lots of light and we get to see the beautiful Colorado sky.
This table is not set to the correct north and south directions but I love this unique piece of furniture that I found at an antique store here in Fort Collings.
To the left of the entryway is our great room, dining room, and kitchen.
Having an open floor plan works really well for hosting and I also find that it’s fairly easy to keep things tidy because it’s really just one large space.
*TIP: Layering looks like pillows and blankets. Organizing looks like containment for like items (like remote controls).
This is the heart of the home where ALL the meals and messes take place. We’ve transitioned from two dining areas to one plus the bar area which works great. I also love using the metal chairs and stools because they are so much easier to keep clean.
*TIP: For felt pads on chair and stool legs – I hot glue them on and they stay waaaaay longer.
Our kitchen has TONS of storage so when we moved in to this house I sold a lot of furniture that didn’t work with our new floor plan. We were able to downsize with a lot of our furniture due to all the storage.
In the background you can see our drink station, I shared all about it HERE. One section of our kitchen cupboards acts like a hutch for drink ware, another section for games, and another for seasonal decorations.
*TIP: Use extra cupboards to create “zones” it works wonderfully and keeps things out of sight.
Next to our kitchen is the pocket office , broom closet, and pantry. This back area is a life saver when it comes to storage and being able to stash things out of sight!
*TIP: Create a command center where you can place all of your stuff when you come home.
Looking the other direction, away from the pantry, you can see the door to the garage and the broom closet on the far right.
The last areas to tour are the office and powder bath. They are both near the entryway. (The first picture on the post shows where things are in relation to the entryway.)
We created more of a “work space” than an office. This room provides us with a quiet place to work. Additionally, the console gives us a place to park a TV (for music or movies) and a place for the printer and office supplies.
You can also see that I have a second command center with a chalkboard. This is where I typically list our weekly family schedule and I use the bulletin boards for cards or photos we’ve received.
The powder bath is to the right. I painted it the same brown that is the stripe in the pocket office.
*TIP: If you don’t have storage for essentials, create a system like this. This container from Hobby Lobby corrals TP, extra towels, and even some cleaning supplies. #simplesolution
OK, whew. That’s a lot of pictures. I hope you feel like you got a sense of the layout etc. One of my wishes (I had three) when we were looking for our home was to have an open floor plan. Check!
Stay tuned for the third floor tour next, thanks so much for dropping by!
Happy Organizing!
