Let me begin by saying I’m sorry.
I’ve had many requests for a home tour of our newest home or what I’m calling our “Mountain Home,” but I’ve been dragging my feet, stalling at every turn, and hesitating to share with you because of one reason and one reason alone. I don’t feel like I’m done with the decorating, layering, and styling. But…that’s OK! I read once that a good house is never done. So here’s our home after living in it for two and half years. Truth be told, I need to lay down some of my perfectionism and let you come on in! So, welcome!
Also, if you are new around these parts, let me catch you up… We moved to Colorado from Europe (Portugal) into a spec new build and we love it. For all of our married life up until now we’ve lived in rentals and/or older fixer upper homes. So, this home is a blessing all-around. I shared more in this post HERE.
Home Tour – First Floor
Today, I’m sharing our finished basement, what I’m calling our first floor. When we moved in the basement was completely unfinished (it seems that most homes in CO have basements – bonus!) so a year and a half ago we decided to finish ours and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
Here is what it looked like pre-finish. And please note that David and I hauled all of this wood in through the window from the curb.
We started the remodel in October and we had the carpet installed in February. It was a bigger project than we both realized, as we basically added three rooms and a full bath, but oh SO worth it!
Now, here is some of the progress along the way…
Olivia was a big help, of course.
Studs and insulation, check! We hired out the insulation, plumbing, electrical, and flooring (carpet and tile). Otherwise we did the rest! It was a TON of work.
Ok, are you ready to see it in all of it’s finished glory? We added a bedroom here which is where our oldest sleeps (I’m not sharing her room with you because well…she’s a teenager!!!) but I’ll start by showing you the hallway and her surfer styled bathroom. This is now the view from her doorway to the hallway.
Here’s the view from the other direction from our TV room. My dad came out twice from the PNW to help us with all the things. He built this barn door which I absolutely love! We are so grateful for all of his help, we couldn’t have done it without him. I had fun working on the floor plan (thanks to my high school architecture club days) and it’s so fun to see the blueprint come to life!
There is a little awkward cutaway near Ainsley’s bedroom door where I took advantage of some vertical space to help keep the guitars available but also off of the floor! (I ordered them from Amazon.)
Also in the hallway is my sewing armoire. This has been the BEST solution for keeping all my sewing things in one spot (keep like with like). You can see my set up HERE.
Down the hallway is our gym. A place that David spends A LOT of time and me not so much. (I need the motivation of a group setting which is why I teach group fitness classes!)
Inside the gym is a door to our unfinished storage area, I gave a full tour of that space over here. I’m so thankful to have this space for extra storage! It helps keep our garage clutter-free!
Then, last but not least probably my favorite room of all because clearly the gym is not! Is our TV room with the awesome barn door.
We also put a closet in this room so it can serve as a bedroom/guest room as needed. One of the best parts of our basement is that the ceilings are high, almost 10′, so it makes the basement (which half of it is garden level) feel not so basmenty. Yay!
Thanks for coming by! Next I’ll show you our second floor.
If you want to see our home in Portugal you can search “Beach House.”
Happy Organizing!
