I shared recently on Instagram that February is “Love your Closet” month.
It’s not, I just made that up.
But I like the way it sounds and I’m thinking I might make it a “thing.”
I want you to LOVE your closet.
I had high hopes of creating videos to coordinate with my eBook, Creating a Capsule Wardrobe, that I released earlier this year. I even taped two different rounds and I’m not happy with them. It’s not that they are horrible but they don’t really “add” much to the book and creating them became more of a time thief. I decided to take my own advice and I’m keeping it simple.
Instead of sharing videos with you, as we wrap up the month of love, I’m going to highlight the three steps to creating a (relaxed) capsule wardrobe. (The eBook can help you further, but these three steps are a guaranteed way to help you transform your closet. Or what I now like to refer to as, loving your closet!)
Step One: Intentionality
You probably only wear a percentage of your clothing on a regular basis. This percentage varies, but I’ve read it can be as low as 20%! To move that percentage up, you will want to begin with an intentional mindset.
- Determine what rules you need to put in place pertaining to your clothes, specifically your shopping and styling.
- Evaluate what a (relaxed) capsule wardrobe would look like for you and your lifestyle.
- Jot down what your specific and intentional plan is for your closet. Will you limit your number of pieces? How many capsule wardrobes will you organize? What do you want your closet to look like?
Step Two: Inventory
Considering the categories of clothing your lifestyle requires, commit to doing a complete inventory of your closet and work to create a minimized closet.
Pull everything (every.single.thing) and try on everything (every.single.thing) and if possible, have someone help you by telling you what looks good on you. Your clothes need to fit well and you need to feel good when you wear them. Also, make a point to get rid of your donations ASAP!
Step Three: Implementation
To maximize your closet, keep an ongoing shopping list of any items you need to help you to create more outfits. Only shop from your list and only add clothing pieces that will increase your wardrobe’s value. This is key, implementation will go hand in hand with intentionality.
Loving your closet is as simple as being continually intentional, completing regular inventories, and focusing on ongoing implementation.
Have you tried to set up a (relaxed) capsule wardrobe? Do you limit the number of clothing pieces in your closet? What helps you the most to keep your closet streamlined? Do you love your closet? 🙂
Also, the Spring Organizing Challenge is underway, see all the info HERE! This is a great way to target those small organizing projects that you’ve been wanting to take care of.
Happy Organizing!
