We’re two weeks away from crossing the big pond back to America. It’s exciting and also a little sad all at the same time. It’s tough to realize this chapter in our lives is about to close. I’m so grateful for our overseas experience. We’ve all learned so much and I know we’ll continue to talk, laugh, cry, and reminisce about all of the wonderful memories we’ve made, probably for the rest of our lives.
As we prepare to move and establish a new home for our family you can bet I’ve started to do a little research and planning. I’m beyond excited to decorate and create our new home.
When it comes to decorating a home, I’ve learned A LOT over the years. (Mostly through trial and error.) The number one tip on my list is the importance of investing in good neutral pieces. I think I’ve said this before? (Because it applies to your wardrobe too!)
Neutrals provide a foundation for a cohesive room (or outfit) and neutral colors allow you to mix and match things more easily. When your bigger pieces, such as furniture, bedding, and paint are neutral colored it gives you a great base for decorating and styling a space. So for fun today, I’m sharing some lovely neutral inspiration.
Go Neutral or Go Home
Moo… 🙂 This guest bedroom from Refresh Restyle, is the perfect example of neutrals done well.
I’ve personally moved away from patterned bedding. It’s just simpler. And you know I like simple.
The Nester does a fabulous job of decorating with neutrals. Her rooms show how to add lots of good old texture and layers. (For a round-up of impressive Design Bloggers you’ll want to check out this post.)
Simplicity at it’s best over at How to Decorate, I love how warm and inviting this space is. The addition of the beautiful tree softens the corner of the room. And they brought in a lot of texture from the table, to the rug, to the basket.
And because I love a stunning white kitchen, I had to share this beautiful one. Notice the black contrast, the wood elements that add interest, and the little pops of green. Stunning!
And if you’ve got little ones, a neutral nursery can easily grow with your little one. Oh do I miss having a nursery in my home. #holdme
Like Emily A. Clark says, “Neutral never fails.” She also has an invaluable post sharing how to choose neutral paint for an open floor plan. (I’m tucking this away for the future Tyree casa.)
KISS – Opt for neutral colors when investing in foundational pieces, specifically furniture, bedding, and paint.
What is one decorating tip you’ve learned from trial and error? I know you’ve got one!
Happy Decorating!
