My hubby and I spent Monday celebrating all past Presidents by having a spa day, it was glorious, and probably why I’m having a hard time getting going this week. (It was good mindfulness practice for me!) I’m also into week three (who’s counting) of attempting to paint our bed. I have painted the two coats, but let’s just say the wax is winning. Score: Wax – 2 and Morgan – 0. I have learned A LOT about Annie Sloan paint. I plan to share later in an attempt to help any of you wanting to take weeks days to transform a piece of furniture!
Speaking of time, my oh my, how time flies! I feel like I’m going to blink and I’ll have two teenagers and we’ll be packing up this beach house of ours! Life is so bittersweet. I also can’t believe that it’s been so long since I’ve shared with you some of my favorite things. So here you go! (This post contains affiliate links. My new favorite saying: “It doesn’t have to perfect to be beautiful.” Courtesy of Myquillyn Smith.
I read this book last week, in a day. I couldn’t put it down. All the pretty pictures helped, but I also really loved Myquillyn’s writing style, I felt like we were good friends, is that weird?!?
This is a must read if you are feeling stumped or discouraged with decorating, with creating, with styling, with making a home. She takes the stress and guess-work out of it all. I have a brand new outlook on how I should approach decorating and creating our home.
I walked away from her words with a new perspective on what a beautiful home should really look and feel like. Perfectionism is generally overrated and usually doesn’t allow for the beauty of life. The beauty that people bring as they really live life.
Beauty within four walls can often look more like a pile of shoes, books stacked about, coats resting where they were tossed, and pillows sprinkled all about because there was a recent pillow fight.
There is peace in letting go of perfectionism. The Nester knows her stuff. I only wish I would have found her sooner.
While I was binge reading The Nesting Place, I was also binge drinking tea. I am currently addicted to this flavor. Hint, hint…drinking herbal decaf teas is a great way to drink more water.
Wow. These are pretty aren’t they?
Well mine don’t look like this anymore, they are no longer perfectly white, which shows life and beauty right? After getting these I have not used paper towels in almost three years. What I love is that I can bleach them when I need to and I am adding a little less waste each week by not using as much paper
I’ve talked before about sticking with products that you know and love versus switching things up all the time. And I still hold to that, but I found a better eye lash curler, it was actually a gift. So I’m still following my rule. (Thanks Sarah!) This little guy works. It’s made by Sheisdio, yes I had to google how to spell that.
For Christmas my hubby and I got a pair of these Contigo Drink Travel Mugs. I am now a Contigo believer. We got matching stainless steel because I’m dorky like that. (Whoops, I sense some perfectionism sneaking in…)
These do.not.leak. Period. End of story. And they hold the heat of your beverage like you wouldn’t believe. Almost too good, if that’s such a thing. Did I mention they don’t leak? Ok, I’ll stop. (Contigo water bottles are also really good too.)
Please share with me what you’re into won’t you? What’s helping you to live with more intentionality? (It can be big or small, cause who says curled eye lashes aren’t important?)
Also, if you are organizing with me and doing the Spring OC, happy organizing day! Keep focusing on progress, never perfection. (If you haven’t joined yet, you still can, it’s open 24/7!)
Oh, and Myquillin, if you’re free I’d love for you to swing by and help me with my Annie Sloan waxing, it doesn’t have to be perfect! xo
