Every year when January arrives I get a sudden burst of organizing energy. Without even thinking about it, I start cleaning out drawers, deep cleaning under furniture, reorganizing closets, and labeling all things that aren’t moving. (My kids tend to hide from me during the entire month!)
This year, I’m even more energized (sorry kids) because Toni Hammersley, from A Bowl Full of Lemons, just released her gorgeous new home organizing book called, “The Complete Book of Home Organization.” (You’ll want to make sure to enter to win a free (signed) copy of the gorgeous book at the end of the post.)
Toni had me at complete! Her book is a beautiful, informative, and inspiring piece of work. If I had to compare it to some of my favorite things, I would choose favorite things like Pottery Barn, Joanna Gaines, and Ikea.
I mean just look…
I knew I would adore this book when I read Toni’s introduction. Her intro is where she sets the tone for the book, and where you and I are reminded (and comforted) that we’re all living in some form of daily chaos!
Here’s a sneak peek…
“Within the walls of our home, we try to live a balanced life. Most days, the dog is chasing the cat and dinner is bubbling over on the stovetop. Piles of dirty laundry, a sink full of dishes, and unmade beds are screaming for attention. And in between the chaotic days, when life slows down a bit, you may see carpet lines, a polished refrigerator door with no signs of finger prints, and a glimpse of order peeking out from the pantry. Balance, not perfection, is the key to a happy home. In this book, I am going to teach you how to maintain balance in your home and regain the love you felt when you first claimed it as your own.”
~ Toni Hammersley
She finishes her intro with my favorite line…
“It’s time to tackle the messes and take back your space.”
Her entire book is all about keeping it real, with what I consider very realistic organizing solutions. Solutions that will help you with your everyday organizing challenges. (I’m also wondering how she knows that unmade beds are the bane of my existence?!?)
The book is designed in 15 week sections, so that you can move through your home room by room, week by week, and in the order (and timeframe) that works best for you. There are detailed checklists, lots of fabulous tools, and amazing pictures that will truly inspire you.
Basically, your organizing energy will be ignited! #jointheparty
My absolute favorites are the “Quick Tips” that are sprinkled throughout the book. The tips give you all sorts of new ideas, ideas that are really easy and simple to implement. And you know I appreciate simple!
On a personal note, I want to thank Toni. She chose me as a contributor for ABFOL in 2014 and that year really helped me to commit to blogging and it also affirmed my passion to write. Without knowing it, she really encouraged me during a difficult season in my life, a season where I needed more direction and more purpose. So thank you from the bottom of my heart Toni! For being my inspiration and for believing in me. I am so grateful that I stumbled upon ABFOL and starting linking up to the weekly challenges. You have been a blessing in my life, I wish you much continued success, and maybe some day we’ll get to meet face to face over glasses of sweet tea.
And to you, my lovely readers, I hope you have a balanced year, sprinkled with lots of organizing energy! Remember, we’re all living in some regular chaos, but we can move to more balance.
