One of my biggest pet peeves is that I often find myself repeating myself, over and over and over. (And usually it’s not a great joke or a funny story.) It’s usually that I’m telling my kids (and sometimes my hubby) what I need them to do around the house. Things like…pick up your coat, place your shoes in the shoe basket, or please walk your lunch box to the kitchen!
While I don’t think this reality will ever not be somewhat of a reality (and I don’t want a pristine or perfect home), I do think there are ways to work smarter rather than harder. And it’s so much better to move away from nagging and move towards teaching whenever possible.
Which is exactly what I have for you today! A great teaching tool that you can add to your “Home Making Toolbox,” a tool that can help you to hopefully teach more and nag (a little) less.
I found this idea in a book that I read many years ago. (I don’t remember the name of the book, but I do remember this great idea!) The solution is to use daily reminders with your family, daily reminders that you can read together to help promote and foster more teamwork within your home.
It’s a short and sweet activity that you can do around your dinner table every night or anytime once a day when you are all together as a family. There are a total of 30 reminders so you can take a month to focus on them and then restart the next month or whenever you feel like your family needs a little reset.
30 Daily Family Reminders
Find a container…
Print off the list (free printable below) or make your own!
Cut the reminders into daily strips.
Fold them up and place them in the container.
Then plan to read one a day together as a family.
The ultimate goal is to use these as a form of instructing and teaching. It is also a natural way to start complimenting and giving examples of how you see some of the reminders already in motion. Approach the reminders lightly and don’t focus too much on what’s not getting done in your home, but rather how you want to grow as a family. Keep the whole activity positive, like a pep talk! You can print the free printable below or come up with your own list! Here’s to more harmony and organization! xoxo
*KISS – Generally more is caught than taught, but sometimes you still need to teach!
