In February my hubby and I got to sneak off on a little post birthday getaway to Amsterdam.
We sort of have a bucket list of places we want to see in Europe while we are fortunate to be living here. Amsterdam was on the list so we packed up (without the kids) and headed out to see another amazing city.
I LOVED the canals. One of my favorite parts of the city. There were bridges and canals everywhere we walked. And we walked A LOT. For the three days that we were there, we walked about seven hours a day. We saw a ton!
I LOVED all of the activity. How even in February (and it was COLD), everyone was out and about. From flower stands to people walking and biking, there was a hub of activity. Even outdoor eating. And it was very cold! (Like we were wearing hoods, hats and scarves every day.)
I LOVED the bikes! I had heard that everyone rides their bikes and that is a truth. Bikes are everywhere you turn. We almost got hit by a biker several times. I thought it was awesome and such a great concept. More cities should adopt this as an alternative. (Although I don’t know if I am brave enough to ride a bike myself. They ride really fast!)
I LOVED the homes. Every street looks like this. The homes are beautiful and most of them face a canal. We also toured the Anne Frank home, the second picture below, which was a very touching tour. Seeing the bookshelf firsthand was extremely overwhelming.
I LOVED the food. From mint tea, to pancakes, to french fries, to seafood, it was all fabulous! Good thing we were walking and walking…
I LOVED (parts of) the culture. While I did not care for the “coffee (pot) shops” or the “red light district” – there were many parts of the culture that I adored. From the bikes, to the architecture, to the food, it is a very unique and beautiful place!
Thanks for traveling with me! I’ll see you back here on Friday when I’ll be revealing how I have set up a command center throughout my entryway to help our family keep the chaos at bay.
