As 2014 quickly comes to an end, I find myself scrambling a bit to finish my goals for the year. (Nothing like a little extra motivation slash kick in the behind.) I started out the year with my goal list and then I shared a mid year review with you as well…so today it’s all about the finish line!
I also want to mention that I’m thrilled to be working on a fantastic yearly Goal Challenge for you all! It’s going to be a great way for us to have the most intentional year ever! 2015 watch out!!!
I’ll be rolling out the “GC” on Monday the 15th. So stay tuned and start thinking about what you want 2015 to look like for you.
I think of approaching a goal like going up to a door. You have to know the door you want to go to, you have to knock on the door, you have to wait, and sometimes you make it in and other times you don’t. The important part is that you are looking for doors to knock on. The doors don’t come to you, you need to go to them.
*Insert – why I have a picture of a door – this was shown on the previous two posts for 2014 goals, so it only seemed fitting to show it the final and third time. This door was taken on our trip to Madrid. Love that city.
2014 Goals
Continue to be a morning person and get up early M-F.
Over the summer I had a huge set back with this one, but all in all, and with the help of driving an early morning swimmer to practice, I have kept this goal trending. I typically get up between 5-5:30 to get a jump-start on my day and to have a little quiet time to myself.
Exercise/move every single day.
The marathon training helped with this one! I probably averaged 4-5 times a week which I feel pretty good about. Teaching yoga classes twice a week, a weekly tennis clinic, home workouts, and an occasional swim have all provided the flexibility and variety to make this goal possible. On “non-exercise” days I’m often doing something like walking / sight-seeing.
Obtain a new certification within the area of fitness and renew my current certifications.
CHECK! This all got completed in October and November, feels very good, and I learned a TON!
Try paddle boarding.
So peaceful, fairly easy, and just a great activity all around. Need to plan to go again!
Plan memorable European vacations.
Morocco, France, Scotland, Spain, and Germany make the list for 2014!
Improve my tennis game.
Crossing this one out might be a bit overzealous. But I am continuing my clinic and finding that I’m enjoying it more and more. (The improving part is still up for debate!)
Read through the entire Bible.
In the beginning of the year I made the mistake of following a schedule that wasn’t really “working” for me. Then I found a better plan that promoted doing the reading in short durations. So I’m currently working through the New Testament as part of a 90 day plan, I may get through Revelation. (I want to revisit this goal in 2015.)
Grow, advertise and develop my business.
I am thrilled to say that this one is crossed off, although VERY much still in progress. Thankfully with the help of some wonderful resources and an extremely supportive and patient hubby I am continuing on this path. My biggest joy this year has been to work with some amazing clients and to watch their personal progress.
Attend a 7-week Alpha Marriage Class at Church.
We completed the class, read a powerful book on marriage, and also did a good job with having fairly regular date nights.
Implement 7 (Jen Hatmaker) into my life.
I feel that this focus is going to be a continued focus for my life. I did go the entire year without purchasing clothes (with the exception of a few necessity items and gifts.) And then I used the money I would have normally spent on myself (on clothing) to donate and give away. I LOVED the challenge and will do something similar next year. I still have to make the cloth napkins and do better with my composting, but I’m on the right track!
Finish my children’s memory file boxes.
Can’t tell you how good this one feels! See them over HERE and my other version HERE.
Finish Berkley’s baby book, it’s about 95% done. 🙂
99% and counting! Happy New Year baby girl!
Study and improve my Portuguese.
Nothing has really changed here…you can see what I wrote in the Mid Year – “I wish I could say that I want to do this one, but who are we kidding? I’m not a language person. It’s just not how my brain is wired. Visual yes, auditory NO. I did buy a book from Amazon, that counts a bit right? After doing two days of assignments, (which feels like I’m in second grade again) the book is collecting dust. On the flip side, I understand A LOT. When the cashier ask’s me questions I usually know what she is saying and can usually respond confidently.”
I am committed however, to continue to stretch myself in this area and I am trying to listen more to the radio just to try to be a little bit more immersed. Baby steps.
Run in another race. (1/2 Marathon?)Insert MARATHON
I decided to actually train and run a full Marathon in October. I shared more about it HERE. AND then I shared the results HERE! Can you believe it? (I can’t.) And I enjoyed it, there might be something wrong with me!!!
Dress up more, avoid wearing my “mom” everyday clothes.
Overall, I HAVE improved. Scarves and Alison have both helped me with this!
Organize my hope chest and other misc. photos.
With my first two Monthly Organizing Challenges I tackled these two!
Research the potential of earning a Master’s Degree while living overseas.
This was an easy one. It just doesn’t make sense for me right now. We don’t know exactly where we go from here and I’m not really sure if I will NEED a Masters for my future endeavors. So for now this is a check! If only all my goals were this easy. 🙂
Order our family picture canvases.
I ordered them and they are now hanging on our walls. Yes, this would be two full years after we took the photos, but nonetheless they are now displayed on our stair well and I love seeing them every day!
Read 25 books.
I am at 24 books, this one is looking REAL good! Yay!
Embrace everyday with my kids, they are growing too fast!
Don’t know if I’ll ever do this one “enough” – but I do have this as an ongoing goal and focus, as I try to be very present with my kids. I want to carve out more one-on-one time with them in the new year.
Write an e-book.
Whoops…apparently I was overzealous on this one. BUT it is not off of the table. I am busy working on creating more boundaries around my time and priorities to better allow for this project. In 2015 this WILL happen!
Sew more.
Well…I’m sewing teacher gifts and I’m still working through some mending and still planning to make those napkins. I just got creative and set up a work station down in the Kid’s Veg Space. It works perfect, I can hop down there during the day and watch a little TV while I work on my sewing projects.
******************************
Wow, it feels good to look back and see these accomplishments and a few opportunities for me as well. I’ve already started my goal list for 2015 and I’m beyond excited to roll out the Goal Challenge for 2015 – it’s going to be a game changer!
TELL ME: Did you set goals for 2014? How did you do on your goals? Did you set too many goals or not enough?
