Wow! It was a fun weekend!!! Fun to finally check a big goal off of my bucket list.
To begin with, I want to thank my sweet friend Cristina who joined me in this endeavor. I don’t think I could have done it without her support. (Be sure to watch her video that she made at the end of this post – its inspirational!)
So here’s how it all went down…
On Friday, I picked up my race packet with my hubby and then we got to have a lunch date together. It was really fun to be down there near the finish line, only two days before all of the excitement! I was feeling good, but a little apprehensive. It was starting to sink in that I was going to have to do what I had set out to do. Yikes….
Then, Sunday morning I woke up early around five to eat a good breakfast and to make sure that I had everything in place before being dropped off at the starting line.
David dropped me off down at the starting line around 7:30, and shortly thereafter my running buddy, Cristina showed up. We did all of the last-minute things you do before you set off to run for what feels like FOREVER…the official starting time was 8:30.
We made sure that we had everything in place. You know things like TP, water, snacks, music and shoe laces tied nice and tight!
And like that we were off!
Then a little over four hours later…this is where you could find me.
Rehydrating and sitting down!
I was so relieved, happy, proud, and of course, tired. It was such a great day, the weather was ideal, the course was relatively flat and I felt really great for the majority of the run. At around 21 miles I did start to feel my feet a bit, but overall I was able to continue to push through and finish strong.
Running a full marathon was a goal that I’ve always had in the back of my mind and now I can say – CHECK!
I’ll leave you with this fabulous video that just makes me emotional. Cristina – you are amazing and such an inspiration. Thank you for loving so well and for being such a great example to me and others. You are right – we all can do more than we think we can do! (Cristina also has a great personal blog that you should check out HERE.)
Do what makes you a better you!
