After our five fabulous days in Paris we then hopped on a plane and flew up to Edinburgh, Scotland.
David and I had a “Scottish” themed wedding, that even included his Uncle playing the bag pipes, so needless to say we were really excited to see this part of the world.
Edinburgh, Scotland
Here we are in the taxi car, leaving the airport.
Notice I am facing them in the back of the car and the driver is on the other side!
We had to take a shot of Connor “driving”…such a cool taxi to get to ride in.
Our view from our Apartment.
We loved our Apartment in Edinburgh, we spent two nights there and we were able to do a little laundry and have some take out meals.
The funny thing that we didn’t anticipate, was that it stayed lighter so much later there. It didn’t get dark until around 11:30! (And there was not much in the way of darkening the room with the sheer curtains.)
We were all a bit tired already, so this certainly didn’t help!
We went to a Pub our first night and were told that they couldn’t serve us because it was almost 8pm and kids weren’t allowed in the Pubs after 8pm!
(Such a contrast to Portugal where dinner starts at 9ish…)
We walked around a bit more and finally found a great Mexican restaurant…who would have thought?
And we had to try….Haggis.
These are Haggis nachos. If you don’t know what Haggis is, you may not want to know.
It was OK, I mean anything with that much cheese on it is usually OK.
Tried it, don’t need to have it again, ever.
We saw a great church that we would have totally checked out if we had been staying there through Sunday.
Our first full day in Edinburgh we spent the day walking around the city and doing the Royal Mile walk.
Here are the highlights. We had a gorgeous sunny day so I took A LOT of photos, I’m sorry, I’m not sorry. 🙂
This is the infamous Greyfriar Statue. Here is a little history.
Apparently fudge is a popular item to make in Scotland? We were not upset by this and enjoyed every bite that we devoured! Too bad a bunch of it melted as we drove around the next day, but that didn’t stop us from licking up the melted pieces.
I love the sound of bag pipes.
Then, the next day we got a rental car and took off to enjoy more of Scotland.
Our first stop was in Stirling to see the castle.
Inside the castle with these three.
The view from the castle, wow.
Then we took off to drive up to Glencoe. (Or what we referred to as driving to the Oregon Coast.)
We stayed in a quaint little town at a B&B.
We ate dinner that night at a Pub (early of course) we’re it felt like everyone knew each other’s name (cue song….) and of course you could bring your dog in with you!
I HAD to try some fish and chips…check out that portion size.
We also looked for the Lochness Monster and only found this one…
Maybe next time?
And, my awesome hubby did great driving a stick shift (he is left-handed), with the steering wheel on the right side of the car and of course we were also required to drive on the other side of the road. Let’s just say I was constantly reminding him to go on the left side. It felt so WEIRD. But he did it! Roundabouts and all!
It was such a wonderful trip all around. Things went smoothly. We took so many modes of transportation, stayed in four different places, and each one of us only packed one small carry on. It was precious family memories in the making.
A trip we will never forget.
Thanks for sharing in our adventures and I hope you have a FABULOUS weekend!!!
(And if you missed our first half of our trip to Paris I shared last week all about it HERE.)
