A word can have multiple meanings.
The intent of any word is usually determined by how the word is used in the sentence, along with the tone, and the circumstances surrounding the conversation.
Organization (the “O” Word) is no different. There are times when this word is a compliment or a note of encouragement and there are times when this word can imply rigidity, inflexibility, and dare I say, boring?
I believe that by design, we are all somewhat already organized people. The difference is, that we each have our own personal style in how we actually organize our lives.
You wouldn’t walk into a grocery store and complain that the store is just too organized, just like you wouldn’t tell the library that their being too “detailed” with their shelf labeling system. There is a place for organization. A place for order.
A place for everything and everything in its place.
However, there is also a place for the creative and for the organic. We don’t need to become hyper active in our organization. Our organization should enhance our lives, not limit our lives.
One of my favorite quotes is, “Plan, plan, plan, and then go with the flow.”
Life is never certain. Life is unpredictable. Life is organic. Life is fluid.
So while one day you might be rocking your schedule and knocking things off of your “To Do” list, other days you might have a hard time getting that shower in and you end up slapping together sandwiches for dinner. Both days are organized. Just organized differently. Organizing is not “a one size fits all” formula. Each of us have different ways in which we like to order and manage our stuff.
Let’s make a pact to be supportive of our different styles of organizing. What if we strive to be sources of encouragement (versus comparison) to our sisters, helping them to organize in their own personal way.
We don’t need to take a cookie cutter approach. Rather we should take the approach that works the best for our lives and our families, in each season.
Our organizing systems should always be evolving. What works in one season might not work in another season and vice versa. Keep thinking outside of the box. Keep trying new things and don’t give up!
Organization is just making a plan and then making the plan work! And many times the plan doesn’t work the first try or two. Don’t give up, just keep trying and always remember to keep it simple! I’ll leave you with this…
Hoping you have a FABULOUS weekend!
