The third installment of the Moroccan Spring Break Trip brings us to Marrakesh! Part One and Part Two took you through the first parts of the trip, today I will show you how we wrapped up the (10 day) trip.
I’ve decided to also do one more post next Friday, to talk more about the experience as a whole. The take aways and what I learned from traveling to this part of the world. Please ask any questions via email or the comments. Especially if there is something specifically you want me to share about.
After day seven we woke up, had breakfast at our hotel and then jumped back into our van for more driving.
A day of driving that would eventually get us to Marrakesh.
Day #8 to Marrakesh
These are the things that we did while driving…reading, sleeping and some singing too!
We stopped along the way to see the Hollywood side of Morocco.
This is the area in Morocco where many movies are filmed.
Another stop for some pictures.
There also happened to be some snake charmers along the side of the road.
Look at this cute guy with a lizard.
I was less impressed with his lizard and more impressed with his yoga pose. I mean look at how he is sitting.
We stopped again to see the Atlas Corporation Studio.
(Our driver gave us lots of inside scoop about the different actors he has driven around and the differences between them. It was VERY interesting…)
Buddies, Ainsley and Mallory.
Sweet girl.
(My attempt to make sure we get photos of the two of us too!)
Now isn’t this a cute picture below?
(It looks like they are kissing.)
We stopped here and got to take photos of this film spot. Many different movies have used this or parts of this for their back drops.
So cool.
Then a little lunch – pizza.
Connor brought some stuffed animals to give away. The little boy on the right is carrying the little doggy he gave him.
Then we arrived at Marrakesh.
Wow.
Here we are entering the street/hallway/tunnel towards our Hotel (Riad).
I don’t have a lot of picture of Marrakesh mainly due to the busyness of the city and my desire to keep my hands available to hold on to my kids.
It was a bit overwhelming. This first night we went out (just our group, no guide) and had dinner. It was crazy. It was the only time of the trip that I felt completely overwhelmed. It was busy, noisy and everyone was pretty aggressive trying to sell you things.
I was very glad to get back to the Riad that night.
Day #9
A new day.
This is the view from our room.
After breakfast we headed out the five of us to do some shopping.
The fresh squeezed OJ was the best ever.
We shopped, bartered and talked with the shop keepers.
It was fascinating.
For lunch we enjoyed a great sandwich spot with our friends.
Then more shopping…I loved all of the spices.
Berkley in a shopkeepers workspace.
(I’m never going to complain again about not having enough space to sew!)
Then that evening we packed up and headed out to catch our ride to the train station.
Leaving Marrakesh.
After a little problem with our tickets we made it onto the train.
The train was going to take us from Marrakesh to Tangier. (About a 10 hour train ride.)
Therefore we were in sleeper cars.
An interesting way to travel, but a good way nonetheless.
My pumpkin – a total traveling trooper!
Day #10
We arrived in Tangier the next day around eight in the morning, took the ferry back to Spain, and then drove back to Portugal, arriving home around six that night. Then we ran out for some take out and started tossing clothes in the washing machine!
Home – Sweet – Home
