Today I’m launching a new series called “Healthy Habits.”
More simple tips to help encourage you as you maintain your health!
Five weeks. Five posts. Five healthy habits.
#1 – Rehydrate {Drink Water}
This is the first tip I usually give to my clients and class participants. A tip that can be very tempting to ignore. A fizzy soda, latte or juice can be so much more enticing than a plain old cup of water.
BUT we really do need to drink water. In fact, water should be one of our first go tos when it comes to what we select to drink.
Five Reasons Why You Should Drink More Water:
- Flushes out your toxins and gets rid of waste.
- Improves your skin complexion.
- Helps with weight loss by raising your metabolism and helping to reduce hunger.
- Maintains healthy digestion.
- Boosts your energy levels!
Five Tips To Help You To Drink More Water:
- Plan to drink your water!
- Measure with a pitcher or pre-filled water bottles.
- Take your water with you, it’s good to drink on the go.
- Make water your primary drink of choice.
- Limit other beverages to only once or twice a day.
I personally try to stay in the habit of drinking my water by using my Nathan Water Bottle as my “go to” drink!
How Much Water Should You Drink Daily?
This is a complicated one. You need to listen to your body and drink (water) when you are thirsty. If your urine is not light-colored than you are probably not drinking enough. Your body can be your best guide. (Of course lifestyle and exercise can affect your hydration needs as well.)
There are conflicting opinions about the effects of caffeine and alcohol and how they affect your overall water intake. Again to keep it simple, I would suggest that you limit how much caffeine and alcohol you consume. As moderation is the key to good health.
KISS – If you keep a balanced approach to your beverages and opt for more water than other choices your health will thank you!
