Over the past month I have realized how much time and energy it takes to keep on top of organizing our clothes. I think women have it soooo much harder. And, one might argue, better. We have so many more options whether you are talking about shoes, accessories or jackets. This reality was really brought to my attention while working with my clients. Organizing our closets and slash organizing our fashion tend to be at the top of our lists when it comes to things we want to work on.
Maybe because we have to get dressed every.single.day?
I am by no means a fashionista. I’m more of a functionista. However, I can dress up when the occasion calls for me to dress up. Insert – crawl out of my yoga pants. I have also been working on being a more deliberate shopper the past few years. For example, not only scouring the Target clearance racks for five dollar tee shirts. And, since starting MWM I have actually embraced scarves! Yes, the one who used to be stressed out by those neck things is now donning them occasionally. (That even used to be mentioned on my About Me page, as something that stressed me out, I’ve had to scratch that off the list.) I have realized a scarf is really like a colorful set of earrings and a scarf can really dress up a Target tee, lucky me!

*KISS – Tank Tops are Life Savers
If you do not have a stack of tank tops in your closet at this very moment, it is time to change that! I have learned this lesson the hard way. There have been so many times I have wanted to wear something but the item was too itchy or too short or too low-cut or whatever, and I couldn’t pull it off.
Enter in the importance of having what I call “layering” tank tops. I now have a stack o’tank tops and I love each and every one of them. They allow me to wear my shirts, tops and sweaters. They provide extra length, warmth, coverage and overall comfort.
Outfit: Mossimo sweater and tank from Target, Paige jeans from Nordstorms Rack, Fossil boots from Ross
See how happy I am? Well that’s because I’m telling my kids to stop running through the “photo shoot” a.k.a. mom’s pictures after Sunday brunch. But notice this outfit. I could not even attempt to wear this sweater without my white Target tank underneath. It would be too low. My simple tank top changes that!
Why have clothes you don’t wear when a simple tank top could change that? Keep it simple and buy the necessary functional under pieces and you’ll be set to put your closet back to work! (In a morganized fashion!)
I recommend the Mossimo layering tank I am wearing above. Start with buying neutrals and then add some pops of colors, maybe even a stripe? I also like Old Navy’s tanks. You don’t have to spend very much to find a nice fitting, comfortable layering tank. May the power of the tank be with you!
