I emailed my hubby at work the other day with a not so little request. A request to move five different pieces of furniture. I spelled out my plan phase by phase, then I crossed my fingers and pressed send.
He agreed 100%! OH happy day. I love to move and re-arrange things, and of course organize!
My request was to change our office from a “kid zone” into a space for moi. We would store the twin/day bed, move the kid’s bookshelves upstairs to our landing and move the bookshelf from the landing to the Living Room. Then we would move the compter armoire to the Dining Room and finally move my desk that had been in the Dining Room into the old “kid zone,” now my office. Are you tired from reading this? I’m tired from typing it and from moving it all. 🙂
So that is the back story as to why I now have an old but new bookcase in my Living Room. It fit perfectly on a long wall that I had been wanting to do something with anyhow! I quickly got to work organizing and decorating.
Here she stands today.
Simple Tips for Organizing & Decorating a Bookshelf:
- Purge your books – ask yourself about each and every book.
- Use baskets to hold smaller books and like item categories together.
- Stack you books in different directions, vertical and horizontal.
- Use books as bookends.
- Add personal touches such as photos or memory pieces.
- Incorporate different shapes, textures, and colors to create interest and design.
- Consider removing the covers of hardbacks.
Do you prefer a book you can hold or have you moved towards using a device?
Happy Reading & Organizing!
