I remember vividly coming home from school when I was a preteen, and how I needed to drink that big glass of milk. Like me, my kids come home from school, SO HUNGRY, every.single.day.
Since this is a daily occurrence in our home, where they come home really hungry, I quickly realized I needed to revise my plan of attack. My snack drawers were working great, the only challenge was that one or two snack items didn’t seem to be enough for my tikes tweeners anymore. The pattern of them asking for more, and more snack items was getting out of control. So I had to think fast!
*Light Bulb Moment*
I realized I had these plates lying around. I know they are not tween styled, but they are so functional, and frankly my kids are so hungry, they don’t mind eating on these toddler children plates.
Thank you Target, what would I do without your dollar bins?
So, when they get home from school, I create a snack plate, sort of like a TV dinner, and ta-da, they have a mini-meal that meets their needs. It helps because I am giving them more to eat for snack time, while also setting a limit on how much they eat. I DO want them hungry for dinner after all.
Here is how I {KISS} Keep It Simple Sister:
- One dessert item (they do not have dessert at lunch or dinner, M-F)
- One to two sides of a fruit and/or veggie.
- One grain or nut option (since they don’t allow nuts at school)
If they are still hungry they are encouraged to drink some water! 🙂
Are you surviving snack time? Do you need a new solution?
