Wikipedia defines a Mission Statement as – “A statement of the purpose of a company, organization or person, its reason for existing. The mission statement should guide the actions of the organization, spell out its overall goal, provide a path, and guide decision-making. It provides “the framework or context within which the company’s strategies are formulated.” It’s like a goal for what the company wants to do for the world. “
A few years ago we created a Mission Statement for our family. We started by discussing together (my hubby and I) the values and goals we desire for our family. It was really important for us to slow down and think about the kind of culture we want to create within our home. After we combined our thoughts, and put pen to paper, we shared the Mission Statement with our kids.
We now have our Mission Statement sitting in our Dining Room as a reminder to each of us what our values and goals are for our family.
I am so happy we took the time to do this and I truly believe that it is something that we will all look to over the years as a source of direction and guidance.
