We’re taking the big stretch…we have decided to cancel our gym membership, and simplify our lives a bit more. By adding some more equipment to our home gym, we hope to be able to keep fit and fab…. or at least stress free!
What am I most excited about? The no make up, the no shaving my legs, and the wearing my pjs part…well not all of that is true. But, on some of the days I am sure I will be happy about the time savings from above mentioned obstacles!
As we are looking at what to purchase, we’re considering two things:
- How much space different items will use.
- What will give us the most functionality and flexibility.
A few items we want to add for sure are bands, free weights, and a spin bike. We already own several items such as a foam roller, yoga mat, pull up bar, a bar w/plates, jump rope, kettle bells, medicine ball, and lots of workout DVDs. We’re hoping with these items and the ones we add we’ll be able to stay motivated and moving!
And….if you have not tried a foam roller, you just might want to…
This is one of my favorite pieces of equipment – the foam roller. (I had seen people using these at the gym and I didn’t understand why they were rolling on a foam thing and frankly what it was doing. It looked weird.) That all changed when my hubby brought one home for me.
Foam rollers are designed for self-myofascial release, sort of like getting a sports massage. It helps to minimize joint and muscle discomfort. For me, it was love at first roll. I tend to carry a lot of tightness in my shoulders, back, glutes, and hams. A roller has helped me a lot to relieve the tension and tightness. And, for me, this means less headaches and soreness.
So, even if you don’t have a home gym, you should totally have one of these, and maybe a yoga mat. I mean we all need a place to stretch right?
