Welcome to my Entryway a.k.a the “dumping zone” or the “landing strip.”
I mean my house can look so pristine {this might be a loose exaggeration} and then once the kids arrive it is like a tornado has passed through and done some significant damage. I love it, because I love them.
And I know that one day I will miss the piles of shoes, sweatshirts, and backpacks lying around….BUT, one has to be able to avoid tripping and stumbling when one walks through carrying a glass of wine laundry baskets.
Sooooo, I did what any good momma would do. I implemented some super simple systems.
Let’s start with a nice big hello…..come on in, I can’t wait to show around! In our new house we come through the front door 100% of the time. So this area needed to serve a lot of different purposes for our crazy party of five. You may recognize this Pottery Barn Console from our former Family Room. I adore this piece of furniture, it is so functional and has held up really well.
Having a clock is essential for the rushed mornings and the adorable “hello” wall sticker was a gift, which I LOVE. (They can be purchased at www.welcomingletters.com.) The red bin on the right has two sections, we put all the keys in the front and the back section is for mail. This would be our ‘command center’ for keys, mail etc.
Decorating helps soften the space and makes the overall set up feel more welcoming. The cute little bowl is a great place for a cell phone to rest.
I gave each kiddo a basket for their school things, whatever they want to put in there they can! The basket to the left is for all of our shoes, since we try to be a “shoes off” house. We keep all of our shoes in our rooms but this is a spot for the pairs we wear most often. Then the drawers are for my hubby and I. (I took two for myself, I mean after all it is my plan.)
Then I had a tough one to solve. We have no closet anywhere on our main level. Nor could I hang a hook system on the wall because our walls are cement and you can’t use screws. So, when I found this great coat rack at Ikea I jumped all over it. It works great for holding our coats and bags.
The fantastic feature of the coat rack is that there are lower hooks for purses and backpacks. My kids have no troubles hanging their things up all by themselves. I am showing you an example with my mega purse!
I’ll leave you with my ABC’s for Entryways:
- Assign baskets/drawers for specific purposes
- Beautify with decor to add a welcoming feel
- Create a command center and storage for coats/bags
Thanks for coming over, you are always more than welcome!
