Sometimes small projects turn into bigger projects around here. I should change that sometimes to an almost always.
Project Plan: Transform my childhood dresser into a “School Station”
First task – build a chalkboard.
My hubby built a frame and nailed a piece of plywood to the back. We stained the trim to match the dresser stain. Then with the help of chalkboard paint, we created a good old fashioned school chalkboard.

Second task – revive an unused dresser.
The dresser was in relatively good condition except for the top that had been decorated by me as a child. (It might have been one of my sisters, but I am happy to take the blame at this point…) So, first we he needed to sand, and fill in the grooves.
I wish I could report that it was a simple process…not so. After many attempts we he got it smooth and prepared for a fresh coat of stain. I jumped in and brought the piece back to life.
Next, I purchased a set of nobs from Target to bring some new life to the dresser.
Of course, they wouldn’t work initially, due to the thickness of the bottom two drawers. Nothing my hubby and his saw couldn’t fix. Now we have a fully functioning “School Station.” This has been a helpful spot for our school time and a good catch all spot for school supplies.
Tomorrow I will reveal the AFTER!
