Do you ever stop and say, “Oh no I haven’t decorated for __________ (fill in the holiday) yet….
It seems every time I go shopping there are more and more holiday decorations for sale and usually sooner and sooner too! Talk about pressure! I don’t remember my mom ever decorating for Saint Paddy’s day…
To help relieve any pressure that may be building, I am going to share some easy tips to manage all the holidays and all of the decorations that may come with the celebrating. (I will not be focusing on Christmas, as this is a post all on its own!) I have to admit it is fun to buy holiday decor, I especially like when there are the sales after the holidays and you feel like you are getting such a great deal! However I encourage you to not just buy something because it is on clearance.
Remember less is the new more around here…
Here is my simple solution that helps to keep my shopping and decorating under control. I have three bins, the green is for Spring (Valentines Day, Saint Patty’s Day, and Easter), the blue is for summer (4th of July), and the black/orange (Halloween and Thanksgiving.) These three bins fit nicely into my hall downstairs coat closet for easy access. I have committed to myself that this is the maximum space I will use for holiday decorations (with the exception of Christmas and Halloween costumes.)
Last week I opened up the fall bin, I haven’t been in a rush as our sunshine keeps holding on and I am happy to hold on to the feeling of summer…
I store everything for Fall in here, the pumpkin carving tools, the kitchen towels with the pumpkins on them, and the turkey candle stick holders from my dear friend Jamie. When I pull everything out, I always reevaluate if there is anything that needs to move on, and then I start to decorate.
Take a look…this is more of a Halloween emphasis and then after Halloween, I will bring out the
Thanksgiving decorations.
Happy Fall Y’all! 🙂
*KISS – Organize your holiday decor by season and set a maximum amount you will store from year to year.
